I lined up my latest book haul on the shelf and realised they were all yellow, black & white! I don’t really own any other yellow books, so it’s especially surprising they all arrived together.
The Silent Partner – Terrence King
The dark, quirky story of a smart-mouthed Angel, Homer, who doesn’t trust God, but is sent to Earth anyway. The mission: help Tom, a struggling journalist, to write a book that will change the fate of Earth and the human race. The challenge: Homer doesn’t think the Earth is worth saving.
More Than This – Patrick Ness
A boy drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments. He dies. Then he wakes, naked, bruised and thirsty, but alive. How can this be? And what is this strange, deserted place? As he struggles to understand what is happening, the boy dares to hope. Might this not be the end? Might there be more to this life, or perhaps this afterlife.
It’s Kind of a Funny Story – Ned Vizzini (I have already read this. I’ve given a teaser but, as of yet, no review)
Craig Gilner checks himself into a psychiatric hospital after a suicidal episode, and ends up in the adult ward while the teen ward undergoes renovations. It’s a light, funny but moving story of Craig finally confronting his anxieties.
