Teaser: The Heartless Stone

Teaser Tuesday highlighter

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be ReadingIt’s simple: turn to a random page of a book you’re currently reading and post two(ish) ‘teaser’ sentences.

“How do you find a piece of star in a place like the Central African Republic? The customary way is to have a dream about it.
The Heartless Stone by Tom Zoellner

Not many non-fiction books encourage me to keep reading as if it was an engrossing fiction.  The history of diamonds is so intriguing in itself that, once the research had been done, it didn’t even really need great writing behind it. But this is written well.

Tom Zoellner has done an excellent job entwining his own experiences (both the story behind his quest for the truth on diamonds and the actual quest) with his research.  If you’ve never before read a non-fiction, I would wholeheartedly recommend this.  It doesn’t need a fictional story, because the truth is more captivating than any story an author could invent.

If you’re not sure, hold out for my review to be published when I’ve finished reading.

What are your teasers this week?

    • I wouldn’t say this is written in the style of a fiction. It’s written like journalism, but it’s got a great story behind it. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s got story-like sections but also straight history. It’s just really good, whatever it is.

    • For me to have already read 200 pages of a non-fiction and not want to put it down is quite a big deal. It’s just so interesting. I definitely recommend you give it a read. Just borrow a copy if you’re not sure about it. I got my copy for $2 🙂
