Book Haul

book haul 16-4-14A trip into Brisbane City isn’t complete without a stop at Pulp Fiction, a bookstore specialising in science fiction, fantasy, crime and mystery.  The guys working at the store are incredibly helpful and have an encyclopedic knowledge of those genres.  They’re always ready to offer recommendations and suggestions.

Yesterday I made a special trip to the store with my list of “books I absolutely have to read immediately”.  After 45 minutes of perusing I didn’t end up buying any books on the list – they didn’t have the ones I was most desperate for – but I did pick up these three.

Beat The Reaper by Josh Bazell – I saw this last time I was at Pulp Fiction and they recommended it to me as a fast-paced story with some great one-liners, so this time I decided to give it a go.

How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu – This book was forcefully shoved into my hands by my friend. It’s a survival guide, complete with instructions and diagrams. Definitely looks like a fun read.

Unnatural Creatures – This is a collection of stories about monsters chosen by Neil Gaiman.  Neil Gaiman’s imagination is fantastically wild, and if he likes the stories, they must be great.

Did you pick up any good books this week?
